Progressive Lenses

Eyeglasses come in diverse types and designs, including trifocals, bifocals, and single-vision lenses. While the bifocal and trifocal options are impressive, you may want to consider a multifocal lens if you are looking for different strengths in your lenses. Many multifocal lenses have a visible line that demarcates the other areas in the lenses. If you are looking for a multifocal lens with no visible lines, then progressive lenses could be the perfect solution. At French Optical Fashion, we offer progressive lenses in New York City. If you are considering progressive lenses, contact our optometrist to schedule an appointment.

Progressive Lenses

Progressive Lenses Explained

Progressive lenses are glasses for people who require corrective lenses to see close-up and distant objects. These lenses allow the user to see varying distances and do not have a bifocal line. The need to have these lenses increases with age. At around 35 to 40 years, many people are unable to focus on nearby objects.

It is a condition known as presbyopia. To correct this condition, most people use single-vision glasses to see distant objects and reading glasses to see close-up objects. While both solutions are amicable, our optometrist suggests progressive lenses since they are convenient for such problems. These lenses provide a variety of benefits:

  • The lower section gives the correction to see up-close objects
  • The upper section gives the correction to see things at a far distance
  • The middle section enables you to see middle or intermediate distances

With progressive lenses, you have a gradual transition of strength to see from top to bottom.

Picking the Right Progressive Lenses

Even though the lenses will enable you to see far and near objects, not every progressive lens will perform well in every situation. If you use a computer for long periods, regular progressive lenses might not be the best option. The lenses will not provide the clarity you need to see the intermediate distant objects. In such a case, our optometrist may suggest that you get progressive computer lenses to provide stronger strength for short or intermediate distances.

Progressive lenses will significantly reduce your eye fatigue and eye strain. The surest way to determine whether progressive glasses will work effectively is by trying them on and observing how your eyes react. If your eyes do not adapt in about two weeks, the lenses may need some adjustments.
