Blake Kuwahara

Named by Buzz magazine as one of the “100 Coolest People in Los Angeles”, Blake Kuwahara is recognized as a talented eyewear designer who created his own company that provides unique frames that consist of two separate shapes of a different color. Each pair of glasses is hand-assembled in Japan from richly colored acetate. Trying to find suitable eyewear, Kuwahara designed a prototype for himself and wore it during dinner with his friend. Unexpectedly, the friend noticed his glasses and said he was looking for stylish but understated eyewear, just like the pair Kuwahara was wearing. Blake was inspired by that conversation, and that pushed him to launch his own signature label.

Blake Kuwahara offers collections of artful frames individually crafted by the best artisans with special attention paid to tactility and sculpting. The founder’s inspiration is driven by his colliding aesthetics and approach in creating glasses as a scrupulous subject of design. If you want to choose a stylish pair of exclusive glasses designed by Blake Kuwahara, we’re waiting for you in our store EuroOptica, where we offer a wide assortment of original frames. We are proud to be an authorized distributor of the popular eyewear company and invite you to visit us at 288 Columbus Ave, Manhattan, New York.

About

Kuwahara studied at UC Berkeley and got a doctorate of optometry degree which helped him a lot in his experiments. He adored biology, anatomy and was always interested in skeletal structure. In many ways, this defined his desire to create innovative collections of eyewear with an unmistakable sense of style. His unique handmade frames constructed from two separate parts of different forms and colors are admired by people all over the world, including celebrities Samuel L. Jackson, Sandra Bullock, Casey Affleck, Halle Berry, Brad Pitt, Will Smith, Charlize Theron, Slash, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Robet Downey, Jr., and many others.

Following the unique technique invented by the skillful creator, each frame created by this company has an inner silhouette encased in an outer spectacle. The ideal fusion of two frames of contrasting tones and shapes makes Blake Kuwahara glasses modern and wearable. Being quite famous, the designer has got a great number of awards for his eyewear, including “Silmo d’Or – Prix Special Journalists de Mode” from a group of French fashion journalists and “Best of Category in Consumer Products” from the I.D. magazine. Kuwahara is a member of the well-known association CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America).

History

The famed American designer launched his own eyewear brand in Los Angeles, and in December 2014, he debuted with the first collection that burst the eyewear market with nine unisex optical frames and nine sunglasses. Being a fast growing newcomer, Blake Kuwahara started to distribute its exclusive frames in premium optical boutiques and fashion dealers. The Spring/Summer 2019 collection consists of ten shapes with a mix of sunglasses and optical frames for both women and men, offered in an assortment of the oval, round silhouettes, and larger shapes inspired by styles of the ’70s.

In November 2019, Kuwahara introduced the Grey Label collection that is made up of four frames in three colors, available in optical and sun. This collection was inspired by skeletal and anatomy structures and produced using special techniques that show off the joints along with temples and frames’ ends. The 2020 collection offered ten new frames created in the company’s signature technique “frame within a frame”. Apart from this, a talented designer worked on eyewear collections for Carolina Herrera, Behnaz Sarapfour, Rock & Republic, Coach, John Varvatos, Converse, and Isaac Mizrahi. His expert use of production techniques paired with excellent designer skills has brought eyewear manufacturing to its highest level.
